Food Lovers In Makarska
I don’t know about you, but having amazing food is one on the top priorities on my holidays! I am definitely a food lover and I am forever grateful if I have the chance to get tips from locals when I am traveling.
When I came first to Makarska I was worried that we will only have meat for 2 weeks and expected to have to cook a lot on my own to have some light dishes as well.
But I was positively surprised and of course to learn not to have prejudices! This is what I would like to share with you here.
Let’s start traditional: Papar Grill. This is the best restaurant in Makarska to get local dishes, big delicious platter and all kind of steak. That is the place to go for all meat lovers!
During main season, especially on Saturdays where they have live music it is pretty crowded so you might want to make a reservation.
Our tips: Papar Grill is also delivering food. Even the platter looks amazing when you order them! We usually order extra bread, because they make it fresh and it is absolute delicious. That way we can enjoy it also on the next day breakfast
Next we would love to recommend you Maka Pizza bar. Honestly everything on the menu from starter to Pizza to Pasta or steak sandwiches is amazing! Doesn’t matter what we order we love it all! It is all made fresh and amazing, you can even see them preparing it. The pizza menu is including a lot of special creations which invite you to try a lot of different types. The service is constantly really good. If you are staying here, you honestly have to visit at least once Maka.
Our tip: Even though they is no delivery option to Villa Basak, you can call them and order food to pick up. Pizza usually only takes them 10 minutes – so if you are hungry that is the fastet way to get amazing food.
Hidden exeptional food in the old town: Gastro Diva. Here you can find fusion food, high class dishes but still for a really good price. Tuna steak or lambchops or homemade pasta. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious and looked amazing. The flair of sitting there is just something unique. We can also recommend the cocktail creations. During summer it is mostly booked on the evening so we recommend to make a reservation.
Our tip: Gastro Diva has every day a new & special lunch menu. It usually includes more traditional local dished. If you want to save some money & try more local dishes that is a recommendation from us (every day until 4pm)
Lastly a small hidden bar in the old town: Kala. This is a small little bar, really cute. Best place to get a good G&T as well as other cocktails. And they have the best chicken burger in town. Honestly that chickenburger is just simply amazing.
Our tip: Be there early to get a seat if you are lucky. If not order the burger for take away and enjoy it down on the pier or at home of the rooftop.
Of course there are many more restaurants and bars in Makarska.
In our foodie list we only recommend you restaurants which are open all year around. There are several amazing seasonal restaurants on the riviera or special places like the Panorama Restaurant. All of them have amazing views and flair. We don’t want to recommend any specific ones, because in our experience the quality differs from season to season – depending on the new staff. Also pretty often they are overpriced and sometimes have bad quality. More a bit of a gambling in our opinion. So you are better off just read through the latest google reviews.
All in all: Makarska can offer you a big variety of all kind of food which is amazing!
Little add on: If you fancy delicious cake you have to go to Romana (next to Maka). Try it and you will understand why we recommend it
